Law Enforcement Experience URGENT READ: The Law of None. Perhaps this is my greatest asset. I do not have blinders on and I am able to think out of the “Box”. I do not see myself as “Us, Law Enforcement” against “Them, the Citizens”. I believe that Common Sense, Integrity and Courage are more valuable than putting on “Training Blinders” on that separate the Citizens from Law Officers. Above all, the Sheriff's office will be Servants to the Citizens, to protect the Citizens from all criminal behavior wherever it comes from, to serve the best interests of the Citizens, and to defend the rights of all Citizens. The primary role of the Sheriff's office is the be a Conservator of the Peace among the Citizens. The Sheriff's Office is a Common Law Office, of, for and by the People. No Judge can order the Sheriff to do anything. The Sheriff is the highest Law Enforcement Officer in the county with Supreme Authority to protect the People, whom lawfully elected the Sheriff. The highest duty of the Sheriff is to the People of the county, no matter what their social station in life, no matter what their economic condition, color, creed or religion. I believe that there is currently a “Wall” between the average Citizen and Law Officers. I will tear down this wall, just like the Berlin wall was torn down by the Germans. For the most part the only time that the average Citizen has contact with a Law Officer is when we see the lights flashing in our rear view mirror, and we are being pulled over. I intend to change all of that. I will actively involve myself in civic matters, civic groups, and church groups. My Under-Sheriff and Deputies will also become Ambassadors to the Citizens and be actively involved in the community. My Deputies and I, will all be known on a first name basis, by the Citizens that we serve. Having said that, I will also have the opportunity to attend several Law Enforcement Schools during my first year in office. I will attend the New Mexico State Police Academy, a four month long intensive training. I will have the opportunity to attend a two-week long FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia, and further training provided by the National Sheriff’s Association. That should be enough “Blinders” for a while and should satisfy the nit-pickers and bean counters.
