Open Door Policy

Almost 50 years of one party domination has resulted in elected officials that are non-responsive to the electorate.  The Sheriff of the County is the highest elected Law Enforcement Officer in the county and works for the People of the County.  The highest duty of the Sheriff is to protect the Citizen electorate.

I will establish an open door policy where my office hours will be published and well known to the Citizens of the County.  Furthermore, I will establish office hours in the community of Pecos and the valley of Villanueva, Ribera and the neighboring communities.

During these published office hours, all Citizens of San Miguel County are welcome to come by and visit and express concerns and discuss current issues with me.  All Citizens will be treated with Respect and Fairness.

However, a fair warning to all Citizens, these office hours will not be used for the dumping grounds for your petty complaints regarding your neighbors.  You will be expected to involve yourself as a Citizen in creating solutions to problems that you encounter by using your God-given intelligence and creativity.  You will be expected to empower yourself by engaging the process of Freedom.  You will be expected to join the Community Policing Programs or establish one in your neighborhood.  You will be expected to join or establish the “Keep Thy Neighbor” neighborhood association in your neighborhood.  You will be expected to join the Sheriff’s Volunteer Posse.

Only through maximum Citizen participation, involvement and engagement in the process of Freedom can the County be made safer for our children, our families and our neighbors.

- Rico S. Giron, Future Sheriff of San Miguel County
